The Madeira North Buggy Tour is an off-road mountain adventure that takes drivers across the central mountain spine to Madeira’s rugged north coast. It’s one of the island’s buggy tours in Madeira, distinguished by its crossing from the central mountain spine to Madeira’s rugged north coast.

Leaving standard asphalt behind, this guided 3-hour excursion navigates dirt trails, mountain ridges, forest surroundings, and coastal viewpoints that regular cars cannot reach.

Água de Pena – Briefing & gear: Arrive at base in Água de Pena. Coffee, safety briefing, helmet and gloves. We walk you through the buggy, the trail and what to expect. Roll out ~15 minutes later.

Warm-up to Fajã dos Rolos: We leave base on the regional road, heading toward Fajã dos Rolos, about 20 minutes to get the buggy under you before things get loose.

Off-road to Boca do Risco: Off the tarmac. The trail climbs to Boca do Risco, with sweeping views over the north coast and Porto Santo on the horizon.

Portela- Water pools & viewpoint: From Boca do Risco we climb to Portela for the playful part: splashing through water pools, then a stop to take in Porto da Cruz and Pico Ruivo, a view that is hard to keep quiet about.

Second off-road: O Roque – Ribeira Primeira: Five minutes on the regional road brings us to Bar O Roque, where the second and final off-road leg begins. We cross an agricultural reservoir and ride ~30 minutes to Ribeira Primeira, finishing the off-road with a clean view over Machico.

Return via Santo da Serra: Fifteen minutes through the village of Santo da Serra, descending past Madeira’s prestigious golf course, and we are back at base, tour done.
