This is one of Scorpio Madeira Diving Center’s most sought-after experiences, taking certified divers into a protected marine reserve shaped by dramatic volcanic topography and consistently exceptional underwater visibility.
The trip starts with a boat ride along the rugged cliffs of the peninsula before you descend into water that often reaches 25 to 30 metres of visibility. Dive sites are chosen on the day based on sea conditions and diver experience, so every trip is tailored to the group.
Below the surface, dusky groupers, schools of barracuda, amberjacks, octopus, moray eels, and parrotfish are a common sight. Sea turtles turn up regularly, and with some luck you may spot the Mediterranean monk seal, one of the rarest marine mammals in the world.
Small-Group Double Boat Diving at Ponta de São Lourenço Marine Reserve
SSI-certified instructors lead small groups at a relaxed pace, giving you the time to take in the reserve’s lava formations, swim-throughs, sheltered bays, and rich biodiversity. For any certified diver visiting Madeira, this is one experience that genuinely delivers.
